Sustainability and Environmental Governance

At the University of Freiburg, the research and study of “Sustainability and Environmental Governance” investigates human-environment interactions as well as the interplay of market, state, and civil society actors that create or impede conditions for sustainable development. 

Our students approach sustainability issues in a context-sensitive manner and gain the expertise needed to critically assess and coordinate multi-level governance processes in a variety of sectors.

The English-taught Master of Science in Environmental Governance (MEG) programme constitutes a significant portion of the classes offered in this research area.
