In Short

Barbara serves as the coordinator of the inter- and transdisciplinary project KERNIG at the Chair of Environmental Governance. Prior, she worked as the module coordinator of the international master’s program Environmental Governance at the University of Freiburg (2016-2018), and as research assistant at the Chair of Development Studies of the University of Bayreuth (2012-2016). In addition to research stays in Argentina, Ethiopia and Kenya, Barbara Degenhart was invited to teach at the University of Porto (Portugal) and the University of Meqele (Ethiopia).

Barbara Degenhart holds a Master’s degree in Global Change – Regional Sustainability and a Bachelor of Science in Geo- and Atmosphere Sciences. She received her Doctorate from the Bayreuth International Graduate School for African Studies in 2019. In her PhD, she explored spatial dynamics of socio-cultural transformation processes with the example of food consumption practices of the urban middle class in Ethiopia. Her research focuses on social dimensions of global environmental changes; she is particularly interested in interdisciplinary and qualitative analysis.
